Cisco is not messing around - especially when it comes to infrastructure optimization.
The company has just unveiled a multi-pronged initiative aimed at enhancing data center virtualization. The plans include:
- the introduction of several new channel programs for Cisco’s expanding data center partner channel
- the expansion of the Unified Computing System family to include the C-Series Rack-Mount Server
- two new Cisco certifications in Data Center Management
This big to do over at Cisco follows another big move: a live broadcast on May 27 via IP TV of its experiences during the implementation of the Cisco Unified Computing System as part of its virtualization strategy.
Of course out of all the initiatives unveiled, the biggest is certainly the new channel programs. Cisco says these programs are targeted at “helping all partners and related supply chains to gain new revenue streams with a focused unified data center approach.”
The channel programs include:
- expansion of its existing Value Incentive Program
- a new Data Center Channel Solutions Program
- an Authorized Partner Program
- and a bid to encourage all partners to adopt the Cisco Advanced Data Center Network Infrastructure (DCNI) Specialization program.
What’s more, the Value Incentive Program offers all of Cisco’s data center technologies, including unified computing, storage networking, and WAN optimization, besides its existing data center switching offering.
As for the C-Series Rack Mount Server - well, that’s an achievement in and of itself. Cisco says these servers are designed to work seamlessly with the UCS blade servers and address the full range of requirements for futuristic data centers. The servers will be available in the fourth quarter of 2009.
A lot to digest here, but certainly very interesting.
Cisco is obviously going out on a limb- and people are taking note.
Looking into my crystal ball I see Cisco as part of the future of network infrastructure.
What do you see?
